 Joti (জ্যোতি)

Institute for Library and Information Management (ILIM) was founded in 1996. Nevertheless, from 1997 to present, ILIM is publishing a well-liked periodical called ‘Joti’ (জ্যোতি) once every year. This periodical encourages both students to think and write so that they can develop their writing skills and talents. Merely, the reading of books is not sufficient for education at all. So, the students should learn how to write and express their own ideas in a good form and in different languages. With this aim in view, ‘Joti’ is published annually. This periodical contains a collection of articles, poems, stories, jokes, and the like. These are written by the students as well as teachers mainly. As the integral part of education system, ‘Joti’ reflects the radiance upon ILIM through the writings of both students and teachers constantly.

For the management of the periodical, an Editorial Board is formed by a quantity of teachers of ILIM usually. The selections are made by the members of Editorial Board, and the best writings are published in ‘Joti’ with necessary addition and changes. ‘Joti’ also contains information regarding the different programs and study tours, organized by ILIM. Sometimes, group photographs of the students, teachers and office-staffs are published. Frankly speaking, ‘Joti’ gives the young and talented writers of ILIM an opportunity to feel intently, observe keenly, think deeply and thereby express themselves in a distinct way. Undoubtedly, this periodical plays a very important role in an educational institution as it channelizes the brilliant writers and helps in encouraging their writing skills by appraisal, which inspires and motivates them to read and write much more.

‘Joti’ is very constructive due to its great educative value. It encourages the students to think freely and write fearlessly in order that they can develop their writing skills and talents. It also helps developing their power of thinking and strengthens their quality of imagination. In this way, the knowledge of the students increases, and they acquire the habit of both reading and writing. Truly speaking, the students of ILIM find real joy, when they see their names, photographs, and writings, published in the pages of ‘Joti’.
